The City of STEM, greater LA’s biggest science program, officially kicks off with the City of STEM Boeing STEM Signing Day event on the steps of LA City Hall. Just like signing days for athletes, the event will honor 50 Los Angeles County high school women whoare seniors and have declared studying a STEM major. at some of the country’s top colleges and universities. These students will be applying their talents in pursuit of careers in STEM fields and putting themselves on the fast track for success. A brief program will honor these young women with remarks by Mayor Garcetti and special guest Danica McKellar, mathematician, author and actor. The event is in partnership with the Mayor’s WiSTEM initiative, local groups DIY Girls and Girls Build LA, and is supported by Ozobot and The Boeing Company. The Hitachi Southern California Regional Community Action Committee, that includes Hitachi Automotive Systems Americas, Inc., Hitachi High Technologies Science America, Inc., Hitachi, Ltd., James J. Boyle & Co., Sunrise Logistics Solutions (America), Ltd., Vantec Hitachi Transport System (USA) Inc., is providing academic material support for the students. The event will officially mark the beginning of April’s City of STEM. The City of STEM is a month-long celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math taking place throughout April, organized by the Columbia Memorial Space Center.
