Full Importer Security Filing Enforcement
& Liquidated Damages Begins
on July 9, 2013
On June
7, 2013 CBP has announced that it
will begin full enforcement of ISF,
and will start issuing liquidated
damages against ISF importers and
carries for ISF non-compliance starting
July 9, 2013. As failure to submit
a timely and accurate ISF filing
can result in liquidated damages
of $5,000 per violation, JJB encourages
our customers to work with all parties
involved to ensure timeliness and
accuracy on all ISF filings.

Court Grants FDA More Time to Develop Food Safety Rules
In a ruling on May 21, Judge Phyllis Hamilton of the Oakland U.S. District Court granted the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) more time from May 20 to June 10 for the FDA and the Center for Food Safety (CFS) to agree on a schedule for releasing the yet-unpublished food safety rules, mandated by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) of 2011.

CGSP & ATPA/ATPDEA Due to Expire
July 31, 2013
The Generalized
System of Preferences (GSP) and
the Andean (ATPA/ATPDEA) trade preference
programs are due to expire on July
31, 2013. Industry observers are
lobbying for its extension and say
there is wide, bipartisan support
for the decades-old program, but
a lack of Capitol Hill urgency could
put its timely renewal in jeopardy.
A House Ways and Means source said
the Committee is working on GSP
renewal, though timing of when a
potential bill will become public
is still unknown.
